Today (Wednesday 7 September 2016) we learnt from various news reports that a Headmaster from a High School in Kent has sent fifty of his students home for wearing the wrong uniform.
Matthew Tate, the Headteacher of Hartsdown Technology Academy in Margate, England, reportedly sent out literature to each of their 1000 pupils explaining a new school uniform would be in-place beginning the 2016 Autumn term.
The incident occurred on the first day of term after the Summer holidays.

Speaking to Susanna Reid & Piers Morgan on ITV's Good Morning Britain earlier today, Mr. Tate defended his actions and furthermore explained if his teaching staff turned up with inappropriate attire, they themselves would be sent home.

Personally speaking, if children arrives at school wearing a smart, tidy & clean uniform then what exactly is the problem? - Mr. Tate is lucky those 50 people turned up because many children these days skip classes or skip their school day altogether.

It was only a few days ago the academy's students were allowed to pose for a photo outside their building dressed like this. - As documented by the school's twitter feed.
Hardy appropriate academic attire, Mr. Tate.

| Furthermore, pupils were snapped inside the premises wearing anything but school uniforms, as we can see in this gallery. - I completely understand the students were in the building to collect their GCSE results but it is confusing how this was only a few days ago and now, to use an internet term, Mr. Tate brings out the banhammer on his pupils who disobey his orders. |
It would be disorientating for anyone who were told uniform is optional one day then uniform must be worn the next.
As Susanna Reid pointed out to the Hartsdown Academy boss, it was the first day. A warning should have been implemented. Going back to school or beginning a new one is a very stressful time for children, they shouldn't have been treated like that. Plus, Mr. Tate should make himself out to be approachable by pupils, staff & parents, with the attitude he has shown, he may very well find himself being very isolated.
Come on, Mr. Tate, lighten up.
